The Cabinet of Ministers yesterday (1) approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to establish a regional office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Jaffna.

Currently a regional office of the department is located in Vavuniya but people from Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts have to spend a considerable time travelling to the only regional office in North in order to obrain emigration and immigration elated services.

Considering the large number of applicants applying for a new passport, the Department decided to set up a new office as proposed in the Jaffna District Coordination Committee meeting held on January 31.
