Tamils are still living under open prisons: ITAK MP

Tamil speaking people are still living under an open prison system where at least one soldier is deployed for every 14 civilians in North and East under current security apparatus of the country, ITAK MP S. Shrithaan said.

Taking part in the Budget debate in Parliament yesterday (28), the Jaffna district MP said that at least three fourth of the total defense personnel is deployed in the two provinces. He asked why this high number of military personnel is in service where the country is not at war currently. 

Tamil speaking people are made into refugees in their own lands as civilian lands are still under military custody and there has been no progressive step from the government to release those lands, he said.
