A bus conductor attached to the state-run Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) was handed in a six-month jail term by a Court yesterday for harassing a foreign tourist inside the bus.
The 27-year-old woman from the United Kingdom was travelling to Kurikattuvan jetty in a bus in order to take the ferry service to Nainathivu. The victim lodged a complaint at Delft police station. The suspect was arrested and produced before Delft Magistrate yesterday.
The Court ordered to pay Rs 10,000 to the victim while handing in a six-month jail term suspended for a year. The Court also instructed the accused to pay Rs 1500 as a fine to the Court as well. (Northeastern Monitor/ March 22/2025)
