Hindu temple in Habarana partially destroyed to construct bus halt

A Hindu temple located on the Habarana main road, Anuradhapura was partially destroyed in order to construct a bus halt by local authorities, locals alleged. 


According to locals, the front entrance of decades old Lord Ganesa temple located on the main street was destroyed and a wall had been erected to construct a bus halt.


Local Hindu communities said the move is deeply hurtful to the Hindus and pointed out the chauvinist mindset of the majority community in South when it comes to places of worship of minority communities. They urged local authorities to look into this issue urgently and reconstruct the damaged parts of the Hindu shrine. (Northeastern Monitor/February 23/2025)
