At least thirteen Indian fishermen were taken into Naval custody early this morning when they were engaged in illegal bottom trawling in Northern waters, the Navy said. One of their trawlers was also taken into custody.
Among them, two fishermen were injured allegedly by the Navy shooting at them when they tried to evade arrest in mid-sea despite repeated warnings issued by Naval units.
The injured fishermen are admitted to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for further treatment. (Northeastern Monitor/ January 28/2025)
