Six individuals including two personnel attached to Military Intelligence (MI) were taken into custody over Rs 3 million theft incident at a jewellery shop in Jaffna town, Jaffna police said.
Following directives issued by Deputy Inspector of Police (Jaffna) Kalinga Jayasinghe, the police teams arrested the main suspect in Chunnakam with Rs 500,000 in possession on Friday.
Based on the inquiries, three more suspects including the van driver were arrested in Kandy. Police investigations also revealed that two MI personnel were also involved in the robbery and the duo were taken into custody in Colombo.
Recently, a group of individuals who claimed to be from the Terrorism Investigation Department (TID) of police went to a jewellery shop in Kasturiyaar Road, Jaffna and took Rs 3 million from the shop owners.
Police have taken steps to produce the suspects in front of Jaffna Magistrate Courts. (Northeastern Monitor/ January 20/2025)
