Jaffna police arrest suspect over theft of 300 sovereign gold

A long time wanted suspect allegedly involved in theft incidents of 300 sovereign gold jewelleries in Jaffna was taken into police custody today.


Police recovered stolen jewels, documents, weapons including homemade bomb from the suspect as well. 


According to the police, the suspect was involved in several theft incidents in Kopay, Jaffna, Chunnakam, Manipay areas for last two years. 


The suspect from Punkuduthivu was taken into custody in Colombo by a special police team attached to Jaffna Police Headquarters. The wife of the suspect fled from the scene. 


The police recovered 90 sovereign gold and found that suspect purchased a luxury house from selling the stolen jewels. Three other suspects who purchased stolen jewels from the main suspect were also taken into custody. 


Jaffna police is to produce the suspect before Jaffna Magistrate Court today. (Northeastern Monitor/ December 7/2024)
