42 candidates failed to submit campaign finance statements in Jaffna

At least forty-two candidates out of 396 total candidates who contested the recent Parliamentary polls in Jaffna failed to submit their campaign finance statements to the Election Commission, District Deputy Election Commissioner K. Amalraj said. 


The deadline to submit those statements expired on December 6. In Jaffna district, a total of 396 candidates from 23 political parties and 21 independent groups contested for six seats in the district. 


Of the 8,800 candidates who contested the elections island-wide, 7,846 had handed over their financial statements so far, according to the Commission. (Northeastern Monitor/ December 8/2024)
