Peaceful voting for General Polls - 2024 underway in N&E

 


A peaceful voting process with lesser voter turnout is underway in North and Eastern provinces as locals set to elect their MPs in the General elections -2024 today. 


The overall electoral district voter turnout remained in the range of 20-25  per cent across the island in the first four hours since voting opened.


The slow voter turnout is due to heavy rains in  North, Eastern, North- Western and Southern provinces also briefly disrupted the voting process as fewer voters lined up at polling centres. 


As of 12.00 pm, the voter turnout of the electoral districts as follows: 


Batticaloa 32%

Jaffna- 22%

Vanni- 23 %

Trincomalee- 23%

Thigamadulla- 18 %
