NPP leads in North; won Jaffna electorate

The National People’s Power (NPP) is leading in many electorates in the North while winning the Jaffna polling division with 9,066 votes


The Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) secured 2,582 votes while All Ceylon Tamil Congress (ACTC) received  1,612 votes while Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) secured 1,361 votes.


The party received only 110 votes in the previous 2020 Parliamentary elections as well. 


In the postal voting results, the NPP led the record lead in almost all the electorates including Vanni other than in Batticaloa district where ITAK maintained the lead.


In the East, NPP is leading in Trincomalee and Ampara districts as well.


Based on election results so far, the NPP is expected to win three seats in Jaffna, with Tamil Nationalist parties ITAK and ACTC securing each seat while an independent group led by Dr R. Archuna is winning one seat.


In Batticaloa, ITAK is expected to win three seats out of five.


In Vanni electorate district, NPP is also expected to win two seats, ITAK, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Democratic Tamil National Alliance (DTNA) and an independent group led by Cader Masthan. (Northeastern Monitor/ Nov 15/2024)
