General polls-2024: Political parties and candidates file nomination papers

Political parties and independent candidates commenced filing nominations in North and Eastern provinces this week to contest November 14- General elections.


In Jaffna, Tamil National Peoples' Alliance (TNPF) and Eelam Peoples' Democratic Party (EPDP)filed nomination documents at the District Election Office in Jaffna today at the District Secretariat. 


TNPF is contesting in the two provinces separately under its own party ticket of bicycle led by its leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam. 


In addition to Jaffna electoral district, EPDP is to contest in Colombo district in the polls as well. 


After handing over the nomination papers, EPDP leader Douglas Devananda said that since many supporters and well wishers requested to field a candidate in Colombo, the party has decided to contest with candidates from all communities. 



In East, so far 15 independent candidates filed nomination and made deposits at Batticaloa District Secretariat where five MPs will be elected from. (Pix by N.Lohathayalan & Theva Athiran)
