Leader of Ilankai Thamil Asasu Katchchi (ITAK) Mavai Senathirajah said yesterday in Jaffna following a meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe that the President should win the upcoming polls and resolve the longstanding ethnic conflict in the country.
President Wickremesinghe who is currently engaged in election campaigning activities in the Northern province met the ITAK leader at his residence in Thellipalai, Jaffna yesterday following a private invitation extended by the ITAK leader.
Addressing the media after the meeting, ITAK leader said that the meeting focused on the development projects in the province.
“ I told the President that my wish and expectation is to see him winning the upcoming polls and resolve the ethnic conflict in the country within three months since assuming office through a new constitution,” Mr Senthirajah said.
The decision by the ITAK leader to host the independent candidate at his residence came following the party's Central Committee (CC) meeting held last week (September 1) in which it was decided to support Samgi Jana Balaweyaya candidate Sajith Premadasa.
After the CC decision of the party, Mr Senathirajah who was absent from the meeting questioned the decision but later agreed to support the collective decision of the party. (Northeastern Monitor/ September 8/2024)
