Jaffna electoral district marks the lowest voter turnout in Presidential polls 2024

The Jaffna electoral district marked the lowest voter turnout of 66.98 per cent in the country at the Presidential election which concluded today. 


Accordingly, the Jaffna electoral district which consists of the administrative districts of Jaffna and Kilinochchi recorded voter turnout of 65.9 and 72.25 respectively. 


In the previous Presidential polls held in  2019, the Jaffna electoral district recorded a voter turnout of 68.03 per cent.


Less voter turnout was observed in most of the districts in North and Eastern provinces compared to previous Presidential polls.

The election watchdog People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) said that approximate voter turnout on the island is between 75-80 per cent. (Northeastern Monitor/ Sept 21/2024)
