Tamil National Peoples’ Front (TNPF) commenced its public campaign urging Tamil people to boycott the upcoming Presidential polls saying that all successive governments failed to resolve the Tamil question and will continue to do so until they recognize the “Tamil Nation” within unitary Sri Lankan state.
The party in its manifesto declared that the Sri Lankan state should recognise the “Tamil nation” within the unitary state of Sri Lanka and adopted the policy of boycotting previous Presidential polls since the end of the final war as successive governments failed to resolve longstanding ethnic issue.
Led by one of its Parliamentarians- S. Kajendran MP, the party commenced grassroot level campaign of calling on people to boycott the forthcoming Presidential polls this week in public markets, bus stands, and public spaces.
The party also did not take part in the moves that were led by other Tamil Nationalist parties and civil society outfits to field a “Tamil common candidate” to register their disappointment at past successive governments for failing to resolve ethnic issue. (Northeastern Monitor/ August 8/2024)
