The Central Committee of Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) is scheduled to meet on August 10 and 11 to decide which candidate it would support at the upcoming Presidential elections, party sources said.
Earlier, ITAK leader S. Shirtharan told at a meeting in Kilinochchi that the party will not back the ongoing attempts by a certain section of civil society outfits and other Tamil political parties to field a Common candidate from the community in order to indicate non-willingness of successive Sri Lankan governments to resolve longstanding ethnic conflict.
Last week, fellow Jaffna District MPs M.A. Sumanthiran and Shanakiyan Rajamanickam urged leading Presidential candidates to come forward on a public platform to share their manifestos and reveal their plans on some of the critical issues the country faces including corruption.
